Jared Glimp's Story

Jared was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma on September 14, 2007, three days after his 10th birthday. Symptoms began with a lump on the left side of his neck that appeared on September 7. After the lump was removed it was determined that he had Burkitt’s Lymphoma. The week immediately following, he underwent a series of tests to determine what stage the cancer was in. He immediately began chemotherapy treatment which lasted until late November. It was fully expected to put the cancer in remission.

But by December 6th, it was determined that he had relapsed, even though the tumor was much smaller. The doctors took a more aggressive approach by treating with the harshest form of chemotherapy and begin preparations for a bone marrow transplant. Jared spent much of December in and out of the hospital, but completed his chemo treatments before Christmas.

As January rolled around Jared began preparations for a bone marrow transplant process which began on January 20th at the St. Louis Children’s Hospital. After they completed his bone marrow extraction, it was analyzed and determined good for transplant. At that time Jared returned to St. Louis for a rather lengthy stay at Children’s Hospital to complete the transplant. He finally returned home on March 29th. After an initial scare from a follow-up PET Scan that revealed a problem in April, Jared has been declared in remission. God is good!

For the next 5 years Jared will continue with clinic visits here in Tulsa to monitor his progress and blood counts, at that time he can be declared CANCER-FREE! He must remain at home and out of the public (in enclosed spaces) for six months while his immune system builds back to normal. It is hopeful that Jared will get to go back to school sometime in September and hopefully attend our benefit dinner theater and silent auction. Continue to pray for Jared has he regains his strength and that God will use his story in a special and unique way.
